2010 Spring Roster

Second-year Orange head coach Doug Marrone has 11 returning starters and 11 new faces on the 2010 roster as his team begins Spring practice on Monday, March 22. All-BIG EAST performers Derrell Smith, Rob Long and Ryan Bartholomew highlight a veteran group that also includes redshirt seniors Delone Carter, Adam Rosner, Andrew Lewis and Anthony Perkins. The focus during the 15 practice sessions in March and April will be teaching and competition.

"We create competition in everything we do," Marrone said. "Every position will have competition. I am interested to see how they have all progressed during off-season conditioning. We want competition that is not combative. It will be healthy for the team and the program. We have to go perform. Football is a high performance game."

Syracuse will host its annual Spring game on Saturday, April 17 at the Carrier Dome at 1:00 p.m. There is no admission charge.

The group of 11 newcomers includes three sets of teammates in wide receiver Aaron Weaver and tight end Jose Cruz, who transferred to Syracuse from Hofstra University after Hofstra discontinued its football program, defensive end Max Beaulieu and linebacker Brice Hawkes, who graduated from University High School early, and strong safety Olando Fisher and offensive tackle Michael Hay, who transferred to Syracuse from Nassau Community College. Linebacker Marquis Spruill joins the Orange after playing at Hargrave Military Academy in 2009. In addition, wide receivers Peter Bobseine and Colin Reno, quarterback Nick Raven and running back Ricky Azzoto joined the squad during the off-season.

Four student-athletes will change positions for Spring ball, including Bartholomew, who returned to center with the graduation of three-year starter Jim McKenzie, Mike Jones, who moved from running back to wide receiver, and Shane Kimmel and David Stevens, who crossed the line of scrimmage to play fullback after playing linebacker in 2009.

The Orange will welcome back several players from injury, including Smith, tight end Nick Provo, free safety Dorian Graham and tight end David Stevens, Senior cornerback Kevyn Scott will be limted during Spring practice, while five student-athletes, including defensive ends Max Beaulieu and Jared Kimmel, strong safety Max Suter, tight end Cody Catalina and free safety Lonnie Johnson will not participate due to injury.

"Everyone has done a good job during the off-season," Marrone said. "Now we are ready to see them back on the field for Spring practice."

All Orange fans are invited to attend each Spring practice session, with the exception of Friday, April 16.
